Size bands and step-rate pricing

Price a service by named size bands, or step a per-square-foot rate down as jobs get bigger, without asking customers to do the math.

Servetic has two different ways to make a service's price depend on scale. They look similar but work differently, so it is worth knowing which one you are setting up.

Size bands vs. a stepped rate

MechanismPricing typeHow it prices
Size bands (tiers)By size/typeA flat price per named band. Nothing is multiplied - the price is exactly what you typed for that band.
Stepped sq ft rateBy measurement (sq ft)The customer still enters a real measurement. The rate itself steps down or up depending which band the measurement falls into, then that rate is multiplied by the measurement as usual.

Setting up size bands (By size/type)

Choose By size/type as the pricing type, then write the question customers will answer and add a band for each answer.

  1. Open the service and go to Pricing & Duration.
  2. Set the pricing type to By size/type.
  3. Write the question in plain language, e.g. "What size is your yard?", "How many bedrooms does your home have?", or "What type of vehicle is this?". Customers see this exact wording while booking.
  4. Add a band for each answer, with its own label, an optional description, and a flat price.
  5. Mark one band as the default, so a starting price has something to show before the customer picks.
  6. Optional: mark any band Requires a quote - picking it sends the booking to a quote request instead of pricing it instantly, for sizes you are not comfortable pricing sight-unseen. That band's price is then ignored for the total.

Setting up a stepped sq ft rate

This only applies to a service priced By measurement in square feet. Turn on "The rate per sq ft changes depending on job size" on the Pricing & Duration tab, then add rate bands, each with a minimum, an optional maximum, and its own rate per square foot.

  • A gap-free set of bands from your smallest job upward is safest - a measurement that falls in a gap between bands is priced at the highest band that starts at or below it, never the cheapest band by accident.
  • Leave the top band's maximum empty for an open-ended "and up" rate.
  • You can still set a minimum square footage and a "don't offer this online above" ceiling alongside stepped rates.
