Servetic has two deposit mechanisms on a service, set separately in the Deposits & Scheduling tab of the service editor, and they do different jobs. Mixing them up is the most common setup mistake.

Deposit: money toward the price
A service's Deposit can be set to Use default, No deposit, Fixed amount or Percentage. Fixed and Percentage each ask for an amount or percent, and when the deposit is due: At booking (collected immediately, whatever payment method covers the rest) or At quote confirmation, for quote-sourced bookings where the booking and your confirmation aren't the same moment. This deposit is subtracted from the total — a fixed deposit is never larger than the price it applies to.
Use default
Use default picks up the business-wide Deposit default set in Booking Forms, Settings, under Money collected at booking — the same fallback used for any service saved before per-service deposits existed. A service can still opt out entirely with No deposit, even when a business default is set.
On an order with several services
When a customer books more than one service in the same order, each service's deposit is worked out against that service's own price and the amounts are added up: a service with no deposit configured contributes nothing, and a service that takes 25% contributes 25% of its own price, not 25% of the whole order.
Refundable / security deposit
Separately, a service can carry a Refundable / security deposit: an extra amount collected alongside the order total, not applied toward the price, meant to be given back afterwards — for equipment rentals or work where something could be damaged. It's Fixed or Percentage too, with its own customer-facing label (for example "Security deposit").
On the booking record this shows as held once collected. Returning it — or keeping it if something's damaged or missing — is a decision you make and act on yourself outside that record; Servetic doesn't refund it automatically.
If more than one service has one configured
When an order mixes several services that each configure a refundable deposit, only the single largest one applies rather than stacking them — a rental order with a $50-deposit item and a $200-deposit item asks for $200 once, not $250.
